YTL Corporation awarded Malaysia Company of the Year at CSR Malaysia Awards 2018

Kuala Lumpur, July 19, 2018

At the recent CSR Malaysia Awards 2018 luncheon event, outstanding Malaysian corporations that have excelled tremendously in the socio-economic transformation of Malaysia were honoured. The event served as a platform to celebrate outstanding achievers and inspiring corporations for their efforts to create a better Malaysia through their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. The recipients of these awards have been selected by a panel of high caliber judges representing corporate and social bodies.

34 Malaysian companies; listed and private were honoured, recognized and awarded for going the extra mile to reach out to needy communities and to engage in sustainability endeavours in efforts to create a better Malaysia. YTL Corporation was awarded the Company of the Year Award 2018 under the Conglomerate category for championing I.T. education in schools and welfare initiatives.

Among the recipients of the awards were YTL Corporation, Ivory Properties, Institut Jantung Negara, LeBLANC, 7-Eleven, ABM Fujiya Bhd, AirAsia, Axiata, Bank Rakyat, Berjaya Starbucks, Canon, Coway, Hard Rock Hotel Penang, Kenanga Investment Bank, KPMG, Kwantas Bhd, LBS Bina Group, Manulife, Maxxima, McDonalds, Orando Holdings, RHB Bank, Salcon Bhd, Shell, Sin Chew, Star Media and Tesco.

The judging Criteria for the CSR Malaysia Awards are as follows:

1. Clear purpose and goals of the company for the CSR initiative
2. The impact created / the significance of the CSR initiative
3. Frequency of CSR events held
4. Total amount of contributions given
5. Transparency in reporting CSR initiatives
6. Creative implementation of the CSR activities
7. Strength of the CSR team
8. Sincerity and the effectiveness of each initiative

More often than not, the focus on recognition for CSR excellence has not been sufficient. It must be remembered that private sector companies are the driving force of the nation’s economy and they are well placed to carry out meaningful and significant CSR activities. Receiving the CSR Malaysia Awards from Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Women, Family and Community Development was very relevant and appropriate as the Government and the Ministry will be able to take note of the individuals and corporations that champion Social Responsibility initiatives. Also present at the event was the CSR Malaysia’s Chairman Dato’ R. Rajendran and its Co-Chairman/Managing Editor Lee Seng Chee.

Corporate Malaysia’s aspirations go beyond mere profits or building world class buildings or infrastructures. These caring organizations promote sustainable economies by helping marginalized communities and making environmental efforts to preserve our heritage for future generations. The event not only celebrated the CSR achievements of these outstanding corporations but also served as a source of inspiration for other corporations to emulate them.

CSR Malaysia Awards 2018 was organized by ‘CSR Malaysia’ magazine, a free publication that shares the unwavering commitment of corporations in Malaysia with a vision and mission to create awareness on the growing need to lend a helping hand to make the world a better place for all. The event, which was attended by some 450 corporate personalities and foreign dignitaries, was supported by Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
