YTL Corp Bhd plans to open six new spas under the “Spa Village” brandname over the next three years, building up its leisure and hospitality portfolio. YTL vice-president of spa division Chik Lai Ping, said business has been sustaining well despite the global financial turmoil.

"The spa continues to act as an amenity to the guests in the resort. We have a lot of followers that travel to all our YTL hotels and resorts to explore the uniqueness we have created for each space. Some travellers stay in the resort because of its Spa Village," Chik told Business Times via email.

YTL's Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali has recently been listed in the UK Tatler Spa Guide 2009 - 'The 101 Best Spas In The World'. This is the second consecutive year that the Resort has been included in this prestigious guide.

In the guide, Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali is listed under ‘Natural Wonders’ and is described as "unpretentious and authentic, but with a crack team of know-how therapists and deliciously inventive food…everything in the spa is 100 per cent natural while still being wowingly effective".

YTL's Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali walked away with the New Spa of the Year award by AsiaSpa magazine, the region’s most recognised spa and wellness publication in a glittering award ceremony. The spa and wellness brand, owned by YTL Hotels has also previously won accolades when The Spa Village Kuala Lumpur was named the Urban Spa of the Year Award while its big sister, Spa Village Pangkor Laut, bagged Spa Exterior of the Year Award also presented by AsiaSpa magazine in 2007.

Continuing its tradition in garnering awards since 2003, this exciting brand has seen the Spa Village at Pangkor Laut Resort emerge top in ''20 Most Fabulous Spa Retreats in the World'' by Australian Gourmet Traveller and has won top accolades at the Condé Nast Traveller UK Readers’ Travel Awards, taking the “Number One in the World” award and the “Best Overseas Destination Spa” category. Spa Village, in Pangkor Laut, was also declared winner of the Harpers & Queen Travel Awards 2002 in the Best Resort Spa category.

Spa Village Tanjong Jara was also the receipient of a prestigious award at the UK’s Condé Nast Traveller Annual Readers’ Spa Awards. The Spa Village was voted Best Hotel Spa in Asia Pacific and the Indian Subcontinent as well as ranking number two in the prestigious “best of the best” list of the World’s Top 26 Spas.

The Spa Village Kuala Lumpur had a surprise win at the Annual Spa Crystal Awards for “Best Spa Treatment” while Spa Village Pangkor Laut continued its winning streak as it was recognised for the second consecutive year as “Best Traditional Chinese Medicine Influenced Spa”, and topped that by also winning the “Spa of Malaysia” award.
