A new industry scholarship is now available for those pursuing relevant engineering courses at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), polytechnics and universities.

The Energy-Industry Scholarship (EIS), co-funded by the government and power sector companies, aims to develop and nurture talent for the power sector.

The closing date for the scholarship application is March 14, 2014.

More information is available at the Energy Market Authority website.

The scholarship covers a student's tuition fees, hostel fees, and provides a monthly living allowance.

Besides full-term scholarships, the EIS also offers mid-term scholarships to those who have already commenced their studies.

The bond period will commensurate with the duration of the scholarship on a one-to-one basis.

Successful applicants can look forward to interesting internships and work attachments during their studies.

Upon completing their studies, scholars will join their sponsoring organisations.

For the inaugural launch, YTL PowerSeraya Pte Ltd and five other power sector companies will be offering the EIS.

Mr Chee Hong Tat, chief executive of Energy Market Authority said, ''The power sector offers good career opportunities and plays a critical role in powering lives for all Singaporeans. For young men and women with a passion for engineering and who want to make a meaningful contribution to the country, I encourage you to apply for the EIS and join us in shaping the energy future for Singapore.''
