Contestants showcase creative shots in Valentine’s Day contest

The Star, February 23, 2013

PARTICIPANTS of Star Publications (M) Bhd’s “A Moment of Love” Contest showed their creativity by capturing heart-warming moments to win the heart of the judges.

One of the judges, The Star photo editor Ng Kok Leong said participants this year put in a lot of effort in perfecting their picture submission for the contest.

“The quality of entries is better than last year. Some participants played with various camera techniques like aperture and shuttle speed to make their photos stand out from the rest,” he said.

“They even took into consideration the lighting, background, framing as well as different creative angles in their picture,” he said.

Ng, together with two other judges, advertising sales head Chua Chee Beng and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd media planning assistant manager Githa Devi Sasitharan, were at Menara Star to evaluate 25 shortlisted photos from more than 1,000 entries.

YTL marketing vice-president Koay Chee Keong said the photos were judged based on the quality and creativity of the photos and captions as well as the originality of the entries.

“Bonus points will also be given based on extra efforts put into each submission. A picture paints a thousand words, so we look for photographs that convey love and tell us a love story,” he said.

“We hope this contest will create a platform for people to cherish share their happiness and express their feelings for their loved ones on Valentine’s Day. It is in line with our brand values in making positive changes in the way Malaysians live, work, play and learn through the use of Internet.”

Chua said this year’s participants consist of a good mix of youngsters and more mature couples.

“This year’s response is great and despite the Chinese New Year holidays, participants have not forgotten about Valentine’s Day.

“It is very difficult to select the winners. The photo captions are relevant and some even rhyme,” he said.

The grand-prize winner will be treated to a three-day/two-night stay for two at Tanjung Jara Resort, Terengganu worth RM5,000.

The first-prize winner will get to enjoy a three-days/two-night stay for two at The Majestic, Kuala Lumpur worth RM2,280.
