Art As An Affirmation Of Life
Good afternoon members of the media, honoured guests and tenants, Malaysian maestros of fine art who are gathered here today, ladies and gentlemen …
Art is a powerful and universal means of communication, and I have always maintained, “All great Art is an affirmation of Life that brings us closer to the Divine.”
For the Supreme Creator of All is indeed Divine in his grand master design of all that we experience and enjoy here today. The wonderful sights, sounds and colours of life you see around you. The myriad of artistic expressions which constantly remind us that we are indeed God’s supreme creation, gifted with the ability to respond, appreciate and empathize with the emotions of our fellow human beings.
At Starhill Gallery today, we are rejoiced to experience a creative process at work, marveling at the movements of inspired energy and spontaneity that give life to these canvases right before our eyes!
Ladies and gentlemen, may we put our hands together for the Six Maestros of Malaysian Fine Art, namely Encik Yusof Ghani, Mr. Eric Quah, Jack Ting, Yusri Sulaiman, Raduan Man and Fauzul Yusri for their spectacular Live Art Exposé entitled “Peoples of Malaysia” in a tribute to Malaysia at Starhill Gallery!
As the saying goes, if “Art is an Imitation of Life”, then surely by pondering and appreciating a wondrous work of Art, we can catch a glimpse of Life and an epiphany of its creation that will surely bring us closer to the Divine!
That is why at YTL, we are passionate about the Arts as we believe in its universal appeal in transcending geographical, cultural and socio-economic boundaries. Art offers us an alternative means of expression, enhancing our vocabulary in communication beyond words with each other.
In this way, Art wields its power to foster greater understanding amongst peoples, bringing us closer in sharing and understanding common human experiences and emotions such as joy, pride, hope, poignancy, empathy and all that makes us uniquely human. Now, that is the miracle of Creation that should constantly impassion us to celebrate life always!
A passionate supporter of the Arts and Culture, YTL constantly endeavours to bring the Arts to the people in everything we do. Instead of over-developing our projects at the expense of Nature’s beauty, we have maintained a 32-acre park with aesthetic landscapes in our Sentul project. And to complement its natural beauty, the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre is specially created to provide alternative means of expressions for people in our community. So, besides nurturing the potential and confidence of young creative minds, KLPac helps to promote the uniqueness of our art and culture with pride and joy.
As for YTL Homes, many of our projects are international award-winners in concept and design so that the lifestyles of our YTL community are imbued with art every day, while our YTL Luxury Hotels & Resorts are world-class destinations of impeccable standards and artistic beauty, among the best in the world.
Likewise, with Starhill Gallery, we have no interest whatsoever in joining the rat race in commoditising the shopping experience or in promoting mindless consumerism where shopping is simply a means of acquiring more and more commodities just to keep up with the Joneses.
Instead, we choose to enrich the human experience with our concept of themed floors, offering diverse sensorial and emotive encounters at every level in “A Gallery of Rich Experiences”. For this humane approach, we are thankful to be blessed by numerous offers to open Starhill Gallery in major cities of the world, the first being the AED 1.5 billion Starhill Towers & Gallery in Dubai. And also, the goodness of this approach has blessed Starhill Gallery with the iconic status of “Asia’s Most Beautiful Shopping Destination” as recently listed in Forbes Traveler magazine.
All these, directly or indirectly, are a result of YTL’s passion for the Arts, may they be a play or a musical at KLPac; a Russell Watson concert in Sentul Park; an operatic tour de force of The Three Great Tenors in Bath; or A Tribute to 50 Golden Years of Malaysian Art in Starhill Gallery, we are proud to share the goodness of YTL through the Arts which we believe are “affirmations of Life that bring us closer to the Divine!”
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us and May God bless you with the passion to celebrate life always!
