OFFICIAL OPENING OF JACKIE CHAN’S CAFÉ IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LAUNCH OF MUSE FLOOR, STARHILL GALLERY
6 OCTOBER 2007
Celebration of Life
Good afternoon members of the media, ladies and gentlemen.
It is good to see all of you here today at Starhill Gallery, “A Gallery of Rich Experiences” where you will always find something or some events that are inspiring and life-enriching that celebrate the joys of life.
An Icon of Icons in Kuala Lumpur, Starhill Gallery is happy to welcome another Icon of Creativity and Charisma – the indomitable “Little Dragon” of Hollywood – Jackie Chan who is also a dear friend of mine to Starhill Gallery at Muse Floor, dedicated to celebrate the splendour of the Arts.
Jackie and I have gone back a long way since the days of my late wife Rosaline, and we struck up a close friendship and understanding immediately because we had a lot in common.
Jackie, although a globally recognised superstar and a hero to millions of people, remains warm, down-to-earth and always aware of his responsibility that comes with his great success. This is evident in so many of his charitable works as a UNICEF Ambassador and also for his untiring contributions to society from Action In Mental Health and Operation Smile to Walk with Pride, Dragon’s Heart Charity and the list goes on and on to benefit all kinds of people around the world … from disadvantaged children to the sick and elderly, cancer patients and victims of natural disasters and also for the improvement of education, medical aid etc.
Now, that generosity can only arise from a deep sense of responsibility that comes with his great success. Likewise, as I have always maintained, personally for myself and for the YTL Group - “The greater the success we are blessed with, the greater is our responsibility to share the goodness of God’s blessings.”
So when Jackie brought up the subject of Jackie Chan’s Café in Kuala Lumpur, I was excited and immediately thought that it would be most befitting for Muse Floor, which is dedicated to celebrate the splendour of the Arts. So what better match is there for Muse Floor than a word-renowned and well-loved Icon of Creativity in the Performing Arts.
Jackie Chan’s Café is of course also an entrepreneurial venture, inspired as a nucleus of warm relationships where all his fans and friends can catch up with each other and enrich their human relationships with the simple joys of sipping aromatic coffee, or chit chat over a refreshing cup of coffee.
Now, that is celebrating life by bringing people closer together with, as Jackie says …”the language of coffee, which is like music and movies, knows no barriers” in bringing people closer together. Besides, a percentage of revenue from Jackie Chan’s Café will be donated to charity to further his good works.
This indeed is an antidote to the stifling and prevailing culture of annihilation, greed and plunder that is so pervasive today.
With Jackie Chan’s Café at Muse Floor, YTL is committed to support Jackie’s unrelentless endeavours in charitable works with his Dragon’s Heart Charity that will help disadvantaged children, not only in Malaysia, but all over the world.
YTL is determined to Celebrate Life in everything we do from our world-class award winning resorts to our iconic restaurants and designer homes that bring joy to the lives of our communities, including our commitment to bring Art closer to the people, inspiring them with epiphanies of the sublime at Muse Floor, Starhill Gallery.
Therefore, in conjunction, Muse Floor, conceptualized to be a “Nucleus of Inspiration & Imagination” will also be launched with an “Open Living Art” concept where Art is brought closer to the people in sharing common human experiences such as joy, pride and hope.
I look forward to seeing you again on the 27th of October to welcome Jackie Chan at Starhill Gallery.
