YTL takes on role of delivery partner of The Global Goals For Sustainable Development in Malaysia




Kuala Lumpur, September 25, 2015​

In support of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development launched today at the United Nations Sustainability Development Summit in New York, the YTL Group has taken on the role of an official delivery partner of the Global Goals in Malaysia alongside Google, Sales Force, The Huffington Post and other global organizations. The Global Goals consist of 17 goals that aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and fix climate change by 2030. Employees of the YTL Group will stand together with the 193 world leaders at the United Nations today to commit to doing their part towards achieving the Global Goals.

For the goals to work, everyone needs to know about them. YTL’s partnership with the Global Goals campaign aims to make the goals famous and help reach 7 billion people in 7 days from the 25 tasks: help people learn about the goals,​tell everyone​about the goals and to encourage others to do something​to make the world a better place.

Teaching children about the goals is probably the single biggest and most important task. FrogAsia, the YTL subsidiary responsible for delivering the Frog virtual learning environment (the ''Frog VLE'') into all 10,000 schools in Malaysia, and Malaysia’s Ministry of Education have collaborated to help students throughout Malaysia learn about the Global Goals.

Together they will encourage schools in Malaysia to participate in the World’s Largest Lesson, a lesson that will be taught in schools around the world over the next 7 days. The lesson will cover the 3 main themes of the goals and will teach the next generation about making our planet fair, healthy and sustainable. To emphasize the importance of these lessons, the Minister of Education and the Director General of Education will be among those who will be going to schools to teach the World's Largest Lesson. This will be broadcasted live to classrooms in Malaysia, India, and Australia through Frog’s Connected Classroom. These lessons will be recorded and together with lesson plans will be accessible to all 10,000 schools in Malaysia through the Frog VLE with the potential to reach 5 million students across the country.

A short animated film on the Global Goals produced by renowned British educationalist, Sir Ken Robinson, is being aired on screens across all YTL locations, such as YTL Hotels and the YesCube on Bukit Bintang as well as on screens in the Express Rail Link between the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the city centre. A Bahasa Malaysia version has also been produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Education for use in schools in the th of September. YTL’s support centres around implementing three main country. YTL Communications will use their extensive YES 4G network to promote the Global Goals through their various media channels.

To raise awareness of the Global Goals, sports celebrities such as Gareth Bale, Alan Shearer and Usain Bolt have taken part in the Dizzy Goals Challenge and challenged others to do the same. YTL subsidiaries worldwide have been encouraged to participate in the Dizzy Goals and to tag their friends and co­workers to spread the challenge and tell everyone about the Global Goals.

YTL Jawa Timur has implemented mini hydro projects in Western Jawa that provide power to more than 400 families in rural communities. In education, FrogAsia is driving innovation in education through the use of technology and bridging the urban rural divide by making high quality content accessible to both urban and rural schools through the Frog VLE. For its work in English language education the YTL Group received the Raja Zarith Sofiah Award for CSR in English Language Education earlier this year.
