Kuala Lumpur, March 5, 2013

It was a glittery affair as Ceres from the House of Goenka opened its first and only concept boutique at YTL's Starhill Gallery offering Malaysians a chance to feast their eyes on 'the world's finest jewels'.

Joining other world renowned brands at Asia's most prestigious mall, Ceres has found its match at the elegant duty-free shopping haven.

Possessing a designer collection of luxury jewellery, Ceres takes pride in its prestigious lineage from the House of Goenka where only the rarest, finest diamonds and precious gemstones are selected for the ultimate portfolio.

Goenka Diamond & Jewels Limited, was founded in 1969 by Nandlal Goenka. The patriarch of the Goenka family heralds its transformation from one of the largest players in the worldwide emerald trade to a specialist player in larger sized diamonds. The Goenka family business works from the mines to the markets so no middle-man is used in the trade and quality is assured from the procurement to the designing of each jewellery piece. The company is currently managed by his sons, Navneet and Nitin Goenka.

Speaking at the launch, Nandlal expressed his joy at being in Malaysia for the very first time. "I have never seen a mall like this before, with so many world class brands all in one place. I think this is the perfect place for Ceres to be. I am excited to be in Malaysia and we chose Starhill Gallery because of Tan Sri Francis Yeoh’s foresight in creating a place where world-class brands can call home. In conclusion, we look forward to investing in this beautiful country of Malaysia," he said.

Venturing into Malaysia, Goenka picked Starhill Gallery as its key location for growth and expansion. Mentioned in The New York Times as one of the Top 31 Places to visit, Starhill Gallery is a landmark of distinction and is regarded as Asia's premium shopping centre.

Malaysia continues to grow as a premier shopping destination boosted by CNN’s news coverage which lists Kuala Lumpur as the 4th best shopping destination in the world after New York, London and Tokyo. Kuala Lumpur was also recently ranked as the second best retail shopping destination in Asia Pacific, according to the 2012 Globe Shopper Index, cementing its position as a shopping paradise.

Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Corporation who was also present at the launch said, "With many world class brands venturing into Malaysia, it is the ultimate proof that our continuous collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism to promote Malaysia as a duty-free shopping destination since 1999 is a successful venture. We also built Bintang walk in 1999 and now 50 million people a year enjoy it. Principals of the world’s most recognised brands have realised that Malaysia is an ideal shopping destination and that it is a great opportunity for retailers as the sales to rental ratio is very efficient."

Ceres joins watch and jewellery brands like Jaeger LeCoultre and Van Cleef & Arpels  among others whom have set up their first flagship boutiques in Kuala Lumpur at Starhill Gallery. These world renowned brands have recently doubled in store size since they opened five to seven years ago, and have seen a stream of distinguished customers and discerning buyers who have acquired pieces not only for their aesthetic quality but as investment pieces for the future.
