Leaps of Knowledge with Julia Immonen

FrogAsia, June 19, 2014

FrogAsia and YTL Foundation will hosting international speaker and world record-holding athlete, Julia Immonen at the next Leaps of Knowledge event. She will be addressing the issue of human trafficking and inspiring our young audience to stand against injustice using their talents and skills as she did in her 45-day row with an all-woman team across the Atlantic Ocean.

Julia Immonen first became passionate about the injustice of human trafficking five years ago, when she heard about the issue through the A21 campaign. What started out as a plan to do a half marathon to raise awareness for human trafficking soon turned into rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. When Julia first set out to row across this powerful ocean, she had no idea she would be doing it in an all-woman team, or that they would set two new world records for being the fastest female team of five and fastest individual females to row across the ocean.

Julia also founded Sport for Freedom, an organization which uses the positive power of community and sport to bring freedom from human trafficking and slavery on a global scale. Julia is now an international inspirational speaker and has just published her first book, Row For Freedom.

This June, Julia Immonen will be inspiring an audience of 800 students and teachers from Malaysian government schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to stand against this injustice of human trafficking.
