Richard Mille Parties in Style at relaunch of boutique at Starhill Gallery

Kuala Lumpur, May 29, 2013

Richard Mille stands as one of the top mechanical wristwatch makers with a reputation for revolutionary watch making.

The illustrious Richard Mille himself was in town recently for the re-launch of the Richard Mille boutique at Starhill Gallery. With his quirky personality and wide smile, the brand owner couldn’t be missed as he mingled with guests and obligingly posed for photos.

His first boutique in Malaysia carries watches that blend old watch making traditions with futuristic materials and high-end technology that epitomize haute horlogerie. Each part of a high performance wristwatch, whether it is a case, screw, bridge, wheel, lever, spring, baseplate or balance wheel is known to fulfill its task with a wide margin of security and resistance to shocks and stress.

Guests ranging from watch collectors and enthusiast to Malaysian socialites and high-flyers attended the event where they were well treated to a fun night with free flow of cocktails and great entertainment to boot.

Just before the official ribbon cutting ceremony, Hollywood actress, Datuk Michelle Yeoh arrived at the event. The dazzling actress sent cameras a-flashing as she walked in and was greeted by Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh of the YTL Group and Richard Mille.

The world renowned actress partnered with Richard Mille in designing the RM ladies range of watches and the RM 019 tourbillon was birthed. When first launched, the unisex watch was acclaimed for its technical prowess as well as for its poetry.

Recently, the RM051 Phoenix ladies watch was introduced. Impressed by the actress’s knowledge and artistic bent of mind towards ladies accessories, the famed designer decided to create the limited edition timepiece which symbolizes the feminine qualities cherished in the Orient. To bring out Michelle’s contribution to the project, the watch will have only 18 pieces for sale, which happens to be the actress’s favourite number.

Also spotted at the event was Malaysian sportsman Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who obliged everyone with photos through the event.  Adjourning to Shook! after the launch of the boutique, guests partied the night away as they were entertained by Belgium singer Yannick Bovy.

Bovy had the crowd singing his praises and most often heard comment of the night was, “He sounds like Michael Buble!” High praise indeed for the 26 year old who performed songs from his debut album ‘Better Man’ along with all-time favourites like Sinatra’s “I’ve got you under my skin” and a surprising jazz version of Oasis’ “Wonderwall”.
