Glitz and Glamour At The Opening Night Of A Journey Through Time X

The milestone 10th anniversary celebration of Asia’s premier watch and jewellery showcase, A Journey Through Time, officially opened the doors to its tenth year with an exhilarating evening filled with opulence and glitz. The prestigious Tourism and Culture Gala Night: Watch and Jewellery of the Year Awards Presentation 2016, JeweLuxe® showcase and performance by renowned British mezzo-soprano Ms. Carly Paoli opened the 10-day event which will run from 4th to 13th November 2016 at Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.
“A Journey Through Time was created nine years ago in 2007 to position Kuala Lumpur as the destination for connoisseurs and enthusiasts of watch and jewellery to congregate and celebrate artistry and craftsmanship. It was aligned with efforts by the Government to boost Malaysia’s tourism industry. We set out to create an authentic world-class event that not only showcases rare private collections, first-in-market editions and show-stopping pieces but a place where experts, collectors and enthusiasts can come together in appreciation of horology and the art of jewellery. We have successfully made it a much-anticipated iconic event that now showcases the best of fashion, art, music and fine food complementing timepieces and jewellery for all who shares a common passion for excellence, artistry and craftsmanship,” said Vice President of YTL Land, Joseph Yeoh.
“Our 10th anniversary is a true testament of our fruitful and long standing partnership with The Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, and collaboration with participating brands and event partners to reinforce Malaysia’s position as a leading luxury shopping destination of the region,” Yeoh added.
Guest of honour at the event was Yang Berhormat Datuk Mas Ermieyati binti Samsudin, Deputy Minister of Tourism & Culture, Malaysia. In her speech, Yang Berhormat Datuk Mas Ermieyati commended YTL and Starhill Gallery for its dedication in placing Malaysia on the regional map with initiatives such as A Journey Through Time.
“Longevity in the retail, travel and tourism industry requires great planning and focus. The dedication and forward-thinking strategy of YTL and Starhill Gallery in creating A Journey Through Time nine years ago and elevating it year after year to boost the tourism retail industry is a great achievement indeed. Both Tourism Malaysia and The Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia are extremely pleased to see the way the event has grown to be the longest running watch and jewellery lifestyle event of its kind in the region and we look forward to the next ten years,” said Yang Berhormat Datuk Mas Ermieyati.
Datuk Mas Ermieyati further congratulated the Malaysian talents and brands showcased in this year’s event, acknowledging how events such as A Journey Through Time provide the platform for Malaysia’s designers and craftsmen to excel and be recognised alongside the best of international brands.
A Journey Through Time X will bring its 10th anniversary theme “Legacy and Icons” to life through an expanded calendar of exclusive offerings. Watch and jewellery aficionados can preview iconic and never-seen-before pieces in Asia while experiencing unique events curated specially for A Journey Through Time X.
The annual Tourism and Culture Gala Night: Watch and Jewellery of the Year Awards Presentation 2016 opened the event this year with a mesmerizing performance by critically-acclaimed British mezzo soprano Ms. Carly Paoli. The sensational performer recently performed with famous tenor Andrea Bocelli on his UK Tour in October 2016. She enthralled guests with her enchanting voice and repertoire before the seven coveted awards were presented. 30 discerning pieces across 15 distinguished brands were nominated and winners were selected by a panel of international judges that includes horology experts and renowned collectors.
The seven awards presented were Starhill Gallery Favourite Ladies’ Watch Award, awarded to Bedat and Co for their watch Ref 324.450.800; Starhill Gallery Favourite Men’s Watch Award, which went to Speake-Marin for their London Chronograph watch; Starhill Gallery Watch with Complications in Movements Award, won by Ulysee Nardin’s Freaklab watch; Starhill Gallery Timeless Jewellery Award, which went to Gubelin for their ring The Story of a Seahorse; The YTL Spirit of Classical Art Award, given to HYT for their watch the H2 Tradition; The Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia - Most Revered Award, conferred upon Garrard’s Peony Necklace and Earrings; and The Judges’ Choice Award, which Moritz Grossman’s Benu Tourbillon was honoured with.
The evening was heightened with a dazzling showcase of fine jewellery from renowned jewellery houses and high octane designers by JeweLuxe® Kuala Lumpur, which is making its debut in A Journey Through Time X.
