KUALA LUMPUR, 2 December 2020

YTL Cement, Malaysia’s largest cement group, is donating approximately RM650,000 to Pertubuhan ‘Perak Food Bank’ Kinta Perak, the brainchild of Yang Amat Berbahagia Datin Seri Dr. Nomee Ashikin binti Dato' Mohammed Radzi, to provide food security for the people of the state.

Perak Food Bank was established in aid of those facing the challenges of limited access to food within the state. With this initiative, Perak Food Bank aims to reduce food wastage by channelling surplus food and produce from hypermarkets and supermarkets towards targeted groups and individuals.

“We are hopeful that our donation will bring relief to those who have had their access to food and necessities adversely impacted, and are delighted to support YABhg. Datin Seri Dr. Nomee Radzi and the Perak Food Bank in their mission to improve lives and livelihoods,” said Rachel Yeoh, Director of YTL Cement.

“YTL Cement will continue to contribute to causes that benefit the rakyat as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility commitment,” she added after handing over a cheque to YABhg. Datin Seri Dr. Nomee Radzi, Chairman of Perak Food Bank.

According to YABhg. Datin Seri Dr. Nomee Radzi, “In 2016, Food Aid Foundation reported that Malaysians wasted 15,000 tonnes of food, including 3,000 tonnes of edible food, every day. With this programme, we plan to reduce wastage whilst concurrently helping sellers save costs.”

“We are grateful for YTL Cement’s donation which will enable us to extend our reach and further our cause. It is vital that we act with immediacy to assist those in need and address hunger and malnutrition issues. I believe that Perak Food Bank will be able to aid vulnerable groups and individuals who have been further disadvantaged by the COVID-19 pandemic,” she concluded.
